CHS Mobile and Electronic Device Policy

Hello Amazing Cowboy Families,

Please review the attached PDF that outlines our CHS Mobile Device Policy FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) Poster that will be placed in all classrooms and common areas on campus.

It is our desire to provide the utmost guidance, support, and clarity to all students and families regarding our school, district, and state policies for mobile devices on campus during school hours. 

Key highlights from the poster summarize the following district and board policy (BP 5131) regarding Cellular Phones and Other Electronic Signaling Devices:

• Any personal electronic signaling device may be used before school begins and after the regular school day ends or during the lunch period when outside. The device shall not be used during class as a camera, calculator, and/or for email or text messaging and shall be turned off during class time and at any other time as directed by a District employee. The device may only be used for academic purposes with staff approval and shall not disrupt the education program or school activity. If a school employee finds it necessary to confiscate a device, the employee may either return it at the end of the class period or school day or keep it until the principal or designee has consulted with the student's parent/guardian. Electronic communication devices are the personal property of students and are voluntarily brought to school. The District assumes no liability for lost, damaged, or stolen personal property. 

• No electronic listening or recording device may be used in a classroom without the teacher and/or principal's permission.   The District's policy regarding personal electronic devices extends to all AI-enabled wearables (e.g., AngelSense devices) and smart glasses (e.g., Meta Ray-Bans). Due to the potential for these devices to discreetly record audio or video, connect to cellular phones, and access the internet, they are prohibited on all school campuses. This policy applies regardless of whether the devices contain prescription lenses. Students who need corrective eyewear should use standard, non-electronic eyewear while on school premises.
